1. Clean out excess clutter.

Everyone has items in their closets or boxes stored in their garages or basements they have not opened in years. Make it a point to go through these things and get rid of anything you have not used in the past two years, as well as things you no longer want.

• TIP: Have a garage or yard sale to sell unwanted items for some spending money for an upcoming vacation or other home improvements, like getting a new roof installed.

2. Repaint the walls in your home.

Painting the walls a new colour is not expensive when you do it yourself. If your walls haven’t been updated since you moved in or you have an older home, they are probably well overdue for a new trendy colour.

3. Install new door and drawer hardware.

You might be surprised at how simple it is to swap out the handles, knobs, or other hardware used on the doors and drawers around the home. Afterwards, your drawers and doors will have a new look to them too!

4. Resurface the exterior of your appliance.

If your appliances look a bit dated, but are still in decent shape, an easy update is to use appliance contact paper. The paper is normally made from vinyl or other type of materials with a sticky backing. All you do is apply it to the exterior of your appliances. Plus, you can find contact paper in stainless steel, black, and other modern colours.

• TIP: For ovens, make sure to use heat resistant contact paper.

5. Resurface the exterior of cabinets and drawers.

You can use contact paper or paint to give your cabinets and drawers a new look and feel. If you also swapped out the hardware, your cabinets and drawers will look brand new.

6. Increase the insulation in your home with rebate programs.

Green Ontario is offering rebates to improve the insulation in your basement and attic. The rebates cover most of the costs. In many cases, your only expense, after the rebate are the taxes. For a few hundred dollars you can have a better insulated home, which will help reduce your energy bills.

7. Inspect your roof for signs of damage.

Having your roof inspected should be part of your spring cleaning chores. You want to look for missing and broken shingles, as well as the presence of moss and mildew. These things indicate your roof needs repaired or replaced. In addition, if you notice water stains on the ceilings inside your home, the roof is most likely leaking.

To learn more about rebates available through the Green Ontario program and improving your attic and basement insulation, or to schedule an appointment for a roof repair or replacement quote, please feel free to contact Logik Roofing at 1-905-424-7469 today!
